This weekend my amazing team of SketchBetter volunteers and I took over the Learning Studio at the Turner Contemporary in Margate, to run an afternoon of Mindful Drawing. We had 100s of people through the doors to take part in our drawing activities – here are the photos from the day.
The Turner Contemporary opened in 2011 in celebration of British painter J. M. W. Turner’s relationship to the town of Margate. During the workshops and the weekend we spent in the otherwise very quiet Margate we felt there was a great buzz of new creative energy revolving around the gallery.
Here are some of the wonderful young people I met on Saturday:
We had many families and adults take part in our workshops – designed to calm the mind, introduce mindfulness and engage creativity. It was wonderful to have such a range of different people come and get involved.
Thank you to Chantell, Sam, Eleanor and April for running the day and to the team at the Turner Contemporary for hosting us. We look forward to returning again soon.
SketchBetter’s Mindful Drawing workshops at the Turner Contemporary this February ran as part of the Opening Celebration Day of Danish artist Joachim Koester’s first UK solo exhibition The Other Side of the Sky.
